The scope of activities includes analyses of chemicals, petrochemicals, oil and petroleum products, and fuels.
The Division can operate and manage third party industrial laboratories.
The Analytical Services Division supports the regular inspection activities of other Saybolt Divisions.
It offers and coordinates analyses for agricultural commodities, foodstuffs and humanitarian emergency relief goods.

Additionally, the ASD, through submitted laboratory analysis, provides a broad range of analytical support to the US refining industry in support of their efforts to meet Federal Clean Air regulations.
Extensive characterization of refinery streams such as sulphur specification during test runs enables refiners to design and optimise production for the future.
